Breaking news:

December 2010: SKIA President, Michael O’Keefe, announced that the SKIA National Executive had made the decision to hold the 2012 SKIF World Championships at the Sports Centre in the Sydney Olympic Park from Monday 19 to Saturday 24 November 2012.

The venue has been chosen after careful examination of a number of alternative sites in Melbourne and the Gold Coast. The Olympic Park Sports Centre has two arenas which are both sprung polished wooden floors and will be ideal for the competition with the main arena having tiered seating for over a thousand spectators and the second area ideal for marshalling competitors prior to their events. The facilities can be seen at www.sportscentre.com.au. The Sports Centre was the arena in which the Taekwondo was conducted at the 2000 Olympics, it has been the venue for a JKA World Championship and is ideal for the SKIF World Championships.

An organising committee has been established and a web page will be developed in the immediate future with links both from the SKIF and SKIA home pages on which will be posted all information about the Championships.

January 2010: The SKIA National Executive has announced 11 November - 18 November 2012 as the dates for the 11th SKIF World Championships. Please stand by for confirmation of location.

November 2009:

Message from the President,

SKIA is humbled by being awarded the opportunity to host the 2012 SKIF World Championships. We would like to thank all the SKIF members who gave their endorsement in Athens in support of SKIA. In particular we would like to thank Kancho Kanazawa for his support and confidence in SKIA.

We have already commenced planning for the Championships and you will see regular updates on this website as our team makes progresses towards the hosting of the event.

Whilst we have tentative arrangements in place for a date and location, we will make a firm decision on this within the next few months. Be assured that we will be holding the event in a venue with international status, and in very close proximity to a wide range of accommodations and well serviced by local and international transport. It is most likely that the event will be held in late September/early October as this is Spring time in Australia and the weather and temperature are near their best.

I invite you all to start your planning for yourself, your families and your teams to visit Australia and to support the 2012 SKIF World Championships.

Oss!

Michael (Mick) O’Keefe
President SKIA
